Feeling like we’re on a Western film-set on a Jeep tour through Monument Valley and listening to captivating tales and stories from our local Navajo guide.

At each step on this USA tour, you’ll be moved by the sheer beauty and power of the natural world. The California Zephyr Train sets a high bar as you embark on one of the most beautiful rail journeys in North America, snaking through rugged canyons and skirting the great Colorado River as you climb into the Rockies. You’ll then seek out sunset red spires and soaring monoliths across four USA National Parks, including the utterly humbling Grand Canyon. We bookend the holiday with two fascinating cities; starting in ‘Mile High’ Denver and ending in the fantasy land of Las Vegas.

Day 1 – Denver

Our transfer service collects you from home for your flight to Denver. On arrival, we transfer to our hotel.

Day 2 – California Zephyr Train (Denver – Glenwood Springs)

Our adventure begins as we board Amtrak’s California Zephyr Train, where we&ll carve through rugged canyons, glide by the Colorado River and cross over the Continental Divide. Later this afternoon we arrive at Glenwood Springs. This resort city sits in the rugged Rocky Mountains, surrounded by the vast White River National Forest. Famous for its geothermal amenities and outdoor adventures, Glenwood Springs is home to one-of-a-kind attractions and is arguably the best destination for the Colorado hot springs.

Day 3 – Arches National Park – Moab

This morning we board our coach to Moab and Arches National Park, taking us across the Colorado-Utah border and on into Utah’s mighty red sandstone landscapes. Early this afternoon we follow the mountains, passing beautiful canyons as we make our way to Arches National Park. The area is famed for its preservation of over 2,000 giant natural red sandstone arches sweeping over 73,000 acres of wilderness. Delicate Arch is a stone icon of the park standing at a huge 43 feet tall. Take a moment to soak up the landscape around you – you’re sure to lose all perspective on size before long. Please note: Your visit to Arches National Park may take place on the morning of day 4, due to weather conditions.

Day 4 – Moab

Enjoy a free day to relax and experience the small-town hospitality of Moab. Stroll through the downtown shops for a great selection of southwestern arts, jewellery, and souvenirs, or spend the afternoon at one of the microbreweries or galleries. If you want to explore more of the National Parks, then there’ll be the chance to join an optional excursion to Canyonlands National Park. Crowded with towering rock pinnacles, skyward-jutting buttes and canyons carved by the Colorado and Green rivers – it feels like a vision of ancient earth in front of your very eyes. In fact, some canyon walls are adorned with pictographs and petroglyphs dating back some 10,000 years.

Day 5 – Monument Valley – Page

This morning we journey to Monument Valley, a land of incredible beauty and rich cultural heritage, where towering sandstone monoliths rise from the desert floor. We’ll venture into the valley by Jeep and explore with a local Navajo guide. Later this afternoon we journey to Page, best known for its iconic canyons, red rock formations and Native American heritage. This evening there’ll be a chance to join an optional excursion to the Navajo-owned and operated, Red Heritage – Native American dinner show, showcasing local dancers talented in colourful powwow dancing, flute playing, and live drum music.

Day 6 – Page – Grand Canyon National Park North Rim – Kanab

This morning there is an opportunity to experience the Tower Butte Landing with Horseshoe Bend on a thrilling optional helicopter excursion. This exhilarating tour takes you to the very top of Tower Butte. You’ll see sights of Lake Powell, Glen Canyon Dam, and Horseshoe Bend. Later this morning our journey takes us to a world wonder – the Grand Canyon. A worthwhile trip, the North Rim is truly a favourable region of the park. It’s quieter, more photogenic, and boasts far more pleasant temperatures in the summer. After an unforgettable day we continue to Kanab – gateway to Bryce Canyon National Park.

Day 7 – Bryce Canyon National Park

We make our way to Bryce Canyon National Park today, absorbing the scenery en route. The park is famed for its rich sunset-coloured spires (known as hoodoos) and magnificent natural horseshoe-shaped amphitheatres – all offset by tracts of evergreen forest. The combination of mountain and desert climate here has created thousands of limestone spires, fins, arches and mazes. It’s simply otherworldly. There are a series of viewpoints, which we’ll stop at to make the most of the dramatic scenes.

Day 8 – Zion National Park – Las Vegas

This morning we leave Kanab behind for Zion National Park, renowned for its soaring monoliths, echoing canyons, enchanting waterfalls and raw rock colours, as well as its prolific wildlife and Native American heritage. It’s barren and unforgiving, but completely captivating. Later today, we continue to Las Vegas. This oasis of indulgence in the heart of the Mojave Desert is unlike any place you’ll have visited before. Here, the lines between reality and fantasy become blurred and you’ll come away wondering if it was all just a mirage after all. We’ll take in the dizzying delights together on a tour this afternoon.

Day 9 – Las Vegas

Today is yours to do as you please. The city might seem a little overwhelming at first, but you don’t need to be a high roller or slots whizz to have fun. Stop for a show, watch the famed Bellagio fountain display, visit Fremont Street – the ‘original’ Las Vegas – or simply walk along The Strip to soak up all the weird and wonderful sights. Alternatively, you might like to join one of our optional excursions to Death Valley or the Hoover Dam.

Day 10 – Las Vegas – In flight

You’ll have most of the day free to make any last discoveries in Las Vegas. Late afternoon, we transfer to the airport for your return overnight home.
