At more than 5,500km east to west, Canada is not a country to be taken lightly. Our 17-day tour is the perfect introduction to a land full to the brim with French colonial grandeur, maritime charm, old-world wonder, fascinating cities and dramatic scenery. As we travel from Montréal to the Pacific coast, we’ll tick off mighty Niagara Falls, tour Toronto and Québec City, and experience a scenic drive through the Rocky Mountains. Rounding our grand tour of Canada off is a stay in laid-back Vancouver.

Day 1 – Montréal

Day 3 – Québec City

UNESCO-listed Québec City is the only fortified city in North America, boasting a perfectly preserved French colonial old town. Our morning guided tour sets the scene; afterwards, you’ll have free time to discover the city’s sights and culture for yourself.

Day 4 – Ottawa

We head for another strikingly attractive city – the Canadian capital of Ottawa. Once again, its fine architecture and natural setting make for memorable hours of wandering. We have included a short orientation tour with time at leisure to follow.

Day 5 – Toronto

The 1,000 Islands Parkway, following the north shore of the St Lawrence River and the shoreline of Lake Ontario, makes up a scenic portion of our drive from Ottawa to Toronto. This friendly city is sure to charm and we’ll take an orientation tour, before the remainder of the day is yours to explore – don’t miss the far-reaching views from the observation deck of the CN Tower, over 500m high.

Day 6 – Niagara Falls

Toronto is ideally located for a full-day excursion to experience one of the great spectacles of nature – Niagara Falls. Picturesque in their parkland setting and awe-inspiring in their power, the Falls are a true icon of world travel, which you may choose to view from a helicopter. We return to Toronto in the evening.

Day 7 – Toronto – Calgary – Banff

We fly across central Canada to Calgary today. Upon arrival, we transfer to Banff, a wonderful gateway to the Rocky Mountains.

Day 8 – Lake Louise

Our included tour today is to Lake Louise, justly famed for its beauty – a turquoise jewel encircled by snow-capped mountains. The gardens of the Chateau hotel present the ideal vantage point of the lake and the Victoria Glacier, which constantly replenishes its waters.

Day 9 – Banff

Often described as the loveliest small town in North America, Banff rewards exploration in its own right. Enjoy a day at leisure here – perhaps scale neighbouring Sulphur Mountain aboard a gondola for breathtaking views of the Bow Valley.

Day 10 – Columbia Icefield – Jasper

Our journey continues north through the Rockies by way of the stunning Columbia Icefield. Take an unforgettable ride on the Ice Explorer (weather dependent). An experienced driver guide shares a wealth of information about glaciers and icefields as the vehicle negotiates the surface of the ice itself. We then continue beyond forests and jagged peaks to Jasper.

Day 11 – Jasper

Yet more wondrous sights await on a sightseeing tour of the environs of Jasper, including the intricate limestone gorge of Maligne Canyon, Medicine Lake (named for the local tribespeople’s beliefs that the waters had special healing powers) and the outstandingly beautiful Maligne Lake, one of the most photographed natural attractions in the world. This evening we enjoy an included dinner with an interpretative talk.

Another spectacular drive through regions of wild and rugged beauty dotted with aquamarine lakes and soaring mountains delivers us to the prestigious resort town of Sun Peaks.

Day 13 – Vancouver

The final leg of our epic journey westwards takes us through ever-changing scenery to Vancouver, perhaps Canada’s most entrancing city.

Sophisticated and spectacular, set between Grouse Mountain and the glittering waters of the Pacific Ocean, Vancouver mesmerises. After an orientation tour of its highlights, you are invited to make your own discoveries.
